I am a professor of philosophy at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, and the Kenneth Mark Drain Chair in Ethics. As of July 2023 I am also the Associate Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences, Academic Programs.
In 2015, I became a co-founder and co-editor of Feminist Philosophy Quarterly, a peer-reviewed, open-access journal free to authors and readers.
My ongoing projects include research in moral philosophy and ethical virtues, especially forgiveness. Everything I write returns to the importance of the idea of a relational self to philosophy. Since I enjoy feminism and pessimism, I set all my theorizing in a non-ideal context, although I'm still working out what non-ideal ethical theory is. My interests in non-ideal theory and relationships inform my research in applied ethics, including work on miscarriage and pregnancy loss, environmental ethics, and teaching ethics.
